Hurricane Harvey affected many texans on Aug. 25 2018. Changing the life of 13 million! The Hurricane set the record in world history for rainfall totals and took a tremendous financial toll on Texas residents and state administration coming second, under Hurricane Katrina, According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hurricane Harvey caused $125 Billion worth of damage. “Harvey caused severe damages in coastal Texas due to extreme winds and storm surge, but will go down in history for record-setting rainfall totals and flood-related damages”

More than 10,000 people were rescued by authorities and volunteers. “An estimated 32 000 displaced survivors were temporarily housed in shelters, and at least 450 000 will apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster assistance.” Many were hospitalized for not only small cuts and bruises, but for mental health issues as is Post-traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) “An estimated 32 000 displaced survivors were temporarily housed in shelters, and at least 450 000 will apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster assistance.”

Not only have families been torn from their homes and everyday living. They also suffered the lost of family members. “ In total, more than 100,000 homes were affected more than 70 fatalities were reported in the greater Houston area.” Even to add to the stress they were unable to return to their homes because of the damage that had started their belongs and home across the state. The fold had put them at risk of developing diseases of the skin,liver, and immune system,and even worse cancer had they returned to their home. Along with that, many Texas Ins and volunteers put themselves at risk to rescue others and help provide clean up. “ Dallas created a mega-shelter for 5,000 evacuees out of its main convention center.” They were provided with cots, blankets, and meals.

There were 738,000 people who registered for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The agency has paid $378 million to them.

On September 8, 2017, Trump signed a bill approving $15.25 billion in storm aid.

Houston received $91 million and Harris County received $44 million to pay for debris removal. The storm left 200 million cubic yards of debris

“I’m tired of running from hurricanes,” April said. “I pulled up my FEMA account, and it is like, Rita, Ike and then Harvey. I’m just tired of running away from hurricanes.”She lost her home, car, and frequent visits to her beloved mother in Beaumont. She sat in the rain for hours, slept on cots, lived in a hotel for months. But she never complains
